Layer 8 were recently invited to attend the #NatWestBoost event in Milton Keynes. The event aims to grow local businesses and connects them with a range of different companies from HR, to protection from fraud. We were thrilled to be asked to run the cyber security stand at the event and with approximately 400 businesses from a range of different counties, this gave us the perfect opportunity to talk about reducing the risks of a cyber-attacks.
Attendees of the event were asked to fill in a questionnaire which was based on human risk factors. One question focused on GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) and explained that a fine for a breach of personal data will be up to 4% of annual global turnover. This question was most shocking to attendees as many did not realise how much their business could be fined. For example, if your turnover is £100,000 that would mean a £4,000 fine. GDPR comes into force next year and as of May 2018 all organisations are required to comply to the demands of it.
We loved the event and were honoured to be invited to it as it gave us the perfect platform to talk to and educate business professionals of all areas. We had the chance to create awareness about the potential cyber-attacks which could affect their business and discuss how to effectively reduce the risk of them.
From the conversations we had, and the resources we gave out, we hope we have helped companies protect themselves and look at the cyber security risks within their businesses.
